MIDLOTHIAN, IL. On Saturday, November 18, 2006, Central Park Student Council had the honor of hosting the IAJHSC Fall Leadership Workshop for the Northeast Lake District. The workshop was held from 8:45 AM until Noon. We were pleased to have Heritage Middle School, Kolmar School, Maranatha Christian Academy, Pope Elementary, Palos South Middle School, and Peotone Jr. High, join us as we took an exciting ride on the leadership roller coaster.
What we did:
Our morning was filled with many exciting activities. Following our first general session, we got everybody moving with an icebreaker and a songfest. Next, we split delegates and advisors into small groups. Each group participated in three team-building activities. These activities were designed to promote specific leadership skills, including: communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills. After the activities, the delegates and advisors had the opportunity to socialize and exchange ideas over lunch. We finished the day with door prizes, and a few words from our Northeast Lake District Representative, Clairsa Morris.
What we have learned:
Hosting the IAJSHC Leadership workshop was an outstanding learning event for our student council. Through this exceptional experience we have learned to appreciate the importance of each individual council member, and realize that each of us has a unique talent or quality that we offer to the student council. We understand that each contribution is significant to the success of our projects, our council, and our school. Most importantly, we have learned not to be afraid to face a challenge. If we work hard, and work together……we can accomplish anything!
