ABINGDON, IL. The Midwest District held their midyear workshop on February 2. It was hosted by Abingdon Middle School Student Council. Besides the host school, it was attended by PORTA Junior High, Hollis Grade School, Lewistown Central, Ingersoll Middle School, and Knoxville Junior High.

The agenda began with a mixer questionnaire and a general session led by the District Rep Lydia Smith. Then a leadership activity had all eleven groups design a roller coaster that included all the schools’ mascots and three student council obstacles or hills to overcome. A meal of pizza, chips, soda, and desserts was served then. Following some social time, another leadership activity allowed groups to do a mock river crossing on scooters using ropes, ingenuity, and teammates. Participants learned to use teamwork, good problem solving skills, and determination to get all members “across the river”.

The evening ended after the last general session when ribbons and participation certificates were distributed.

The Midwest District would like to thank Abingdon Middle School and their advisor Mr. Randy Owen and their parent volunteers for the fun evening of activities.
