Let It Be Us Selected as the 2017 IAJHSC State Service Project

Let It Be Us

By Jayne Lynde
IAJHSC Northwest District Rep

As elected representatives of the IAJHSC we’ve challenged ourselves and our members to create their own stories.  This State Service Project gives all of us the opportunity to help others create their own happy stories.  The children in the Illinois foster care system could really use our help.  There are approximately 400,000 children in foster care in the United States.  In Illinois, there are about 18,000 children in the system.  Imagine the look on a foster child’s face when they hear they are going to have a forever family!  This is the happy ending they want, and this is the happy ending they deserve.

Let It Be Us is a charity dedicated to the adoption and education of children in Illinois foster care.  This charity builds bridges between foster children and potential adoptive parents.  They provide many programs to help achieve their primary goal of finding forever families.  Let It Be Us is the first non-profit of it’s kind in Illinois.  Their Summer Camp program is new and has a lot of room for growth.  We can be a part of their ground breaking work by supporting their Summer Camp Program.  Let It Be Us intends to send children to a special camp exclusively for children in Illinois foster care. These camp experiences change lives! Many of the children in foster care have never been able attend a summer camp - either sleep away or day camp- and we can help change that! We can help provide scholarships and overnight camp supplies to Illinois children in foster care. There are many benefits of this charity and donating money to their cause helps Illinois foster children add a new chapter to their life stories.

Countdown to Convention!

March 2nd, 2017  |  Posted by admin

The 58th Annual IAJHSC State Convention is just under two months away!  Registration is proceeding very well with over half our maximum capacity filled already.  All necessary convention information and forms can be found in the Members’ Area.  The new username and password was emailed to all members who renewed their 2017 membership.  If you paid your 2017 dues and did not receive the email with the new access information, be sure to contact me right away.

As you know, Mr. Patrick Maurer will be the keynote presenter at convention.  He will address us on Friday night, Saturday morning, and during the Saturday smaller group lunch rotations.  Patrick is a nationally known motivational leadership speaker who is recognized as one of the best in his field.  He has earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation, an honor less than the top 10 percent of speakers earn worldwide.  He is a fantastic storyteller and will help empower us to be better leaders.  For more information on Patrick, visit his website at www.pmaurer.com.

All deadlines for convention related materials can be found to the left of this column.  Through newsletters from your Adult District Directors, District Representatives, and the forms themselves, the deadlines have been readily available.  However, I thought a list of all of them in a single place might be beneficial.  There is still plenty of time to get everything done, but if you delay too long, particularly in registering for convention, you may miss this excellent, yearly leadership opportunity.

One of the most important activities at convention is to elect your Adult Directors and District Representatives for the coming year.  This is done during your district caucus meetings on Friday night and Saturday morning.  It is so important to elect people who have not only the interest in doing a good job fulfilling the responsibilities, but also the time to do the job well.  Only by being at convention can you make sure your district chooses the most qualified people to fill these important positions.

I sincerely wish all of you the best for the remainder of this school year as you remember “Leaders Create Their Own Story!”  I hope to see as many of you as possible at the convention.

Take care!
